It's been a while since I wrote anything about comment spamming, but not due to it being quiet. My banning pages have increased almost exponentially the last year, due to all the excellent articles spammers try to push to the market via naafsvandijk.nl ;-) Until now I've been able to cope without any API or other engine that will filter my comments for me. But it seems that I'm loosing the battle. Not because I give up, it's more in the line of not wanting to maintain the banning pages myself and coming uop with even smarter ways of letting honest people comments on my entries. I find a CAPTCHA-like system an unneccesary block for my readers and would-be-commenters, but as i have better things to do with my life than deleting comment spam, I'm gonna implement a Cold Fusion CFC that runs on the server (CFAkismet, a Cold Fusion implementation of the Word Press anti spam API Akismet). Whenever you our readers comment on an entry the CFC contacts a central repository of known spammers, usual spam-words and the likes, and flags a comment to be spam or not! In the latter situation your comments will be nicely displayed under the entry, in all other cases all available data of the spammer will be collected and the spammer will be blacklisted. More time for me to do useful thingz!
Oh, and comments are open, but not to spammers ;-)
