IE Warning
"Warning, warning, danger, danger, master Robinson, please look out!" This is a famous line exclaimed many a time in the sci-fi tv-series Lost in Space by the big Robot whenever the young master Robinson ventured into dangerous areas or someone was trying to harm him. Although a bridge as flimsy as the outside of a soap bubble, I chose this line to introduce the all new, IE-only warning bar at the top of our weblog. For some time now I've been wondering if I should apply it, but after the n'th brush with death using IE, I chose to put it up there. What does it do? If you're using IE it simply tells you to use a better browser. Take your pick, use Firefox or Opera, but please: make the switch today. For more information go to BrowseHappy

It seems that not only I have a problem with IE. Read this story by John Dvorak, a regular columnist for PC Magazine. In short, Dvorak feels that IE is Microsoft biggest blunder ever, both financially and strategically! Thanx 2 my Dad for telling me about this article.

Hey, what have we here? Google in the US advertises for Firefox with the Google toolbar embedded on their homepage. And what's so special about this? Well, it's only displayed to IE users ;-). Read more here.

I found a very interesting website whilest skimming through an article over at Accessites.org on "Visible skiplinks - or not?" (referred to me by Roger Johansson over at 456Bereastreet.com). It's a bit different from every other initiative about changing browser and which browser is the best, safest, most standardscompliant etc. The campaign "Viewable with Any Browser: Campaign" over at anybrowser.org is more about using standards and graceful degradation than about switching browsers, thus lifting the discussion to a higher level. Please go take a look!

I have no objection to Windows - although it's "zo lek als een mandje", but it's the crappy browser that's weaved into the operating system I object to. Even the new IE7 doesn't meet the standards the way (even older versions of) Firefox and Opera do today. Opera 9 btw was the first browser to pass the Acid test!!! So the development team of IE have a long way to go before getting close to the superiority of Firefox and Opera.

This whole post is also about browsers, which can run independently on a various number of OS's. Specifically I was referring to IE on Win OS, but it could also refer to IE on Mac, which probably is the buggiest browser ever ;-(
Anyways, the Gates family line of products is quite good, but has many, critical flaws. In IE that is the CSS-parser, the quirksmode, the security holes, etc. Just visit http://positioniseverything.net to understand the magnitude of errors in IE!
